Alex Crosses Atlantic to Star on the Stages
During its 44 year history the Pirelli International Rally has attracted star drivers from many different countries and this year the event will add another to its CV when American star, Alex Kihurani realises a long-held dream to compete in the Prestone British Rally Championship, the former Subaru Rally Team USA member sitting in with Will Graham in a Ford Fiesta R2 to mount an attack on the BRC Cadet class.
After some years competing on events in the USA, Alex realised that the real action was in Europe so he persuaded his employers, Ernst & Young, to transfer him to their London office so he could be at the centre of the action. Shortly after arriving in the UK he was offered the opportunity to co-drive with rising star Alex Parpottas in the Junior European Championship , they had a season of mixed fortunes and with every event being a plane ride away, Alex has decided to concentrate his efforts on the British series which he believes will be every bit as competitive.
Another attraction of the Prestone British Rally Championship is the opportunity to compete on legendary rally stages, as famous in the States as they are anywhere else in the world and Alex is looking forward with relish to the experience of competing in the famous Kielder Forest over stages made famous by their long association with the Lombard RAC Rally, Britain’s round of the World Rally Championship. “I have heard about them since I was a kid”, said Alex, “And it’s going to be awesome being on stages I have studied on VHS tapes for the majority of my life”
The Pirelli International Rally, which is also a round of the FIA Celtic Trophy and the FUCHS Lubricant MSA British Historic Rally Championship, runs on April 29th, the rally is based in Carlisle, the border city hosting the event for the 40th time with rally headquarters at the H & H Borderway facility located close to the M6 motorway.
