There will be festive fun and a real “Street Party” atmosphere as Brampton hosts the finish of Saturday’s Pirelli International Rally with the competitors roaring right into the centre of the Cumbrian market town following a day of all-out action in the huge Kielder Forest. The Brampton Parish Council and the local traders have pulled out all the stops to ensure that it will be a really momentous occasion both for the rally drivers and for the hordes of spectators who will line the town’s Main Street and throng into the market place to see the cars cross the finish line and the winners receive their awards.
Even before the rally cars arrive there will plenty for the public to enjoy with numerous craft stalls in the main street, face painting for the children, fairground rides and children’s entertainers. Meanwhile, the automotive theme is carried on with displays of military vehicles, vintage Land Rovers and a fire engine. The famous Pirelli Rally Car Simulator gives the public the opportunity to experience what it is like to drive on a rally stage and there will also be a massive 60 foot TV screen showing action from the day’s fierce fight in the forests.
With Brampton’s main street closed to traffic from 4:00 pm, spectators will be free to stroll around and soak up the atmosphere, take a look at all the exhibits, join in the activities and take advantage of the towns many cafes and catering establishments. When the rally cars arrive and line up outside the historic Moot Hall. There will be lots of opportunities for seeing the cars close up, taking photographs or collecting autographs.
As part of the run-up to the event, Brampton Parish Council ran a painting /drawing competition for the local school children, there were four winners, 11 year olds Ellie Caruthers and Alex Correia plus 6 year olds Lacy McCullough and Paige Dalgliesh, their winning efforts, along with all the other entries will be on display in Brampton’s Moot Hall.
