Hyundai Hunts for Pirelli Points
Tom Cave, runner-up in the 2016 MSA British Rally Championship, will drive a Hyundai i20 R5 on the upcoming (29th/30th April) Pirelli International Rally, round 2 of the Prestone MSA British Rally Championship, it will be the cars first ever appearance in the championship. The i20 will be supplied and run by an experienced private Hyundai Motorsport customer team and Cave will be testing extensively ahead of the Kielder Forest based event, well known for its superfast stages.
“It’s great to have the opportunity to debut this car in a round of the British Championship”, said Cave. Because it’s the first time the car has appeared in the series, I’m expecting it to attract a lot of attention so I intend to show the car in the best way possible. Having finished second last year, I believe I have a great opportunity to fight for the title so I hope a good result will lead on to other things – hopefully in a Hyundai”.
Before the Pirelli International Rally, Cave will compete on the championship’s opening round in a Ford Fiesta R5. The Hyundai drive is currently just a one-off but the 25 year old Welshman is hoping that a good result will give added momentum to the rest of his season. With numerous spectator venues on all the stages plus the rallies re-group in Bellingham and the high profile finish in Brampton town centre, the spectators and rally enthusiasts will have more than ample opportunity to get a view of the latest make of car to join the 2017 championship scene.
The 2017 Pirelli International Rally is based at H & H Borderway AuctionMart in Carlisle, just off Junction 43 of the M6 while the event’s special stages will all be located within the Kielder Forest complex.
