An “All-New, Short Sharp” format will greet competitors to the Kielder Forest Rally, the new event from Cumberland Sporting Car Club, which replaces the club’s long-established Pirelli International Rally, for many years a mainstay of the British Rally Championship.
This new event, a round of the FUCHS Lubricants Motorsport UK British Historic Rally Championship, the Seacon UK Motorsport UK English Rally Championship and the North East based Motoscope Northern Historic Rally Championship and SG. Petch / ANECCC series will feature a very compact route with the start, finish, service area and stages all contained within the confines of the Kielder Forest complex. The 45 stage miles will be divided into two loops of 3 stages with a central service area located at the well known Greenside car park.
The 2020 route will, for the first time in several years, use stages based both North and South of the vast Kielder Reservoir with the tracks specially chosen to minimise the use of chicanes on the stages and to keep road mileage to a minimum.
Clerk of the Course, Steve Waggett, commented, “Given that this is the first running of this new style event, we have planned a route which has variation from fast-flowing to technical and demanding stages but one which is, above all, compact. We have made the best use of the roads available to us within the forests and which are located close to the central service area at Greenside. The team, many of whom have been involved with the Pirelli International Rally, have been instrumental in sharing their wealth of knowledge to help put this event together and we are really excited with what we have to offer the competitors”.
