The new Kielder Forest Rally, which will run on April 25th, will really live up to its title with the rally organisers opting to base the rally slap bang in the middle of the Kielder Forest complex with rally headquarters located at Kielder Castle and the service area utilising the Forestry England’s Greenside site adjacent to the C200 road. All the action will take place in the surrounding forests with the event organisers planning six high speed stages to challenge the competing crews.
The rally has attracted considerable interest in motorsport circles and will be a counting round in no fewer than six championships, headlined by the prestigious Fuchs Lubricants British Historic Rally Championship which will be joined by the Motorsport UK English Rally Championship, the SG.Petch/ANECCC Rally Championship, the Motoscope Northern Historic Championship, the Race and Rally2 Series and the Crew25 Series for young drivers. The organisers are also in negotiations with the Armed Forces Rally Team who are hoping to bring their huge 2 tonne, turbocharged Land Rover “Wolfs” to the event.
Basing the Kielder Forest Rally locally should bring a significant economic boost to the area, not least for the valley’s many hotels, guest houses and B & B’s who will no doubt be inundated with requests for accommodation with the rally organisers estimating that between the rally crews, their support mechanics, marshals and officials plus a large number of spectators, there will be upwards of 500 people all looking for weekend’s accommodation.
A spokesman for the Kielder Forest commented, “There have been many rallies in the Kielder Forest, including the legendary Lombard RAC Rally, but this is the first occasion that one will actually have based in the locality. We recognise that it is a tremendous logistical challenge but are sure we can rise to the occasion and produce a great event in this iconic setting”.
