Pirelli Promises a Big Day for Brampton
Brampton’s historic market square and town centre will come alive on Sunday 30th April when the Pirelli International Rally comes roaring up the High Street for a high profile finale to the International event which will see a host of futuristic, high powered cars , crossing the finish line in front of the historic 17th century Guildhall. It’s certain to be a big occasion for the local population, whom the rally organisers are hoping will turn out in force to welcome the field of top drivers who will be arriving in town.
The Brampton town centre finish will be the culmination of two days of high speed action which will feature a top class field of drivers from around the UK and beyond, and with the Pirelli backed event counting for both the Prestone MSA British Rally Championship and, for the first time, the FIA Celtic Rally Trophy, the competition is bound to be fast and furious as drivers strive to secure precious points in these two prestigious series.
The Cumberland Sporting Car club, who have organised the rally since its inception 43 years ago, are pulling out all the stops to ensure that the Brampton finale will be a really spectacular affair and, in association with Brampton Parish Council, they will be working to bring a real rally atmosphere to the town centre with loads of rally bunting, a static rally car display, the spectacular “Pirelli Spider”, a huge inflatable dome where the rally leaders will be interviewed, a massive 60 foot video screen showing all the action from the weekend’s event and, of course, the prize presentation, complete with the traditional champagne spraying. There will be a live commentary relayed to the watching throng and lots of Pirelli Rally “Goodies” handed out and bags of opportunities to take photographs and collect autographs.
It all promises to be a fantastic occasion with the colourful, futuristic rally cars lining up on the cobbled market square and the towns Victorian buildings providing a picturesque backdrop to the occasion. Certainly, the organisers will be making every effort to make sure that the good people of Brampton will not forget the day that the rally came to town.
