Hexham will be the scene of much motorsport activity this weekend (June 18th) when the Kielder Forest Rally rolls into town to make it’s base at the Hexham Auction Mart where some 100 powerful rally cars will be assembling prior to the event which will be based on the winding gravel tracks of the giant Kielder Forest complex.
Before the rally commences however, the pupils of Hexham Middle School will get a chance to see these high speed rally cars up close as the rally organisers have arranged to take a couple of the cars, which are entered in the event, along to show the girls and boys and let them see just what a an exciting and highly modified vehicle they are. There will be a great opportunity for the children to take photographs, collect autographs and take a close up view of the cars, they can even sit in them.
And as a special bonus, the children will also get a visit from one of the countries most successful rally drivers for Hexham & District Motor Club member, David Henderson, who isn’t competing on the Kielder Forest Rally but sportingly offered to come along and meet the school’s pupils, will be bringing along his recently purchased Ford Fiesta rally car. David is enjoying an extremely successful season behind the wheel, he has already scored outright victories on The Snetterton Stages Rally, The East Riding Rally and The Donington Stages Rally and on his last outing he finished as runner up on the recent Border Counties Rally, missing out on the top place by a mere 4 seconds.
A spokesman for the Kielder Rally said, “We are delighted to be coming along to Hexham Middle School and look forward to meeting the children and showing them
The cars and we will be delighted if they get really interested and they come along with their parents to see the rally cars in action in the Kielder Forest
